How it works
- Pick the two currencies. Rupees to a foreign currency, the other way round, or between two foreign currencies.
- Type the amount. The result updates as you type.
- Check the rate date. The date of the rate is shown under the result, so you know how current it is.
Questions people ask
Are these live exchange rates?
No. They are daily rates (the European Central Bank's reference rates, plus ExchangeRate-API for the Gulf and South Asian currencies), which are published once a day, so you see the latest daily rate rather than a moving market price. The date is shown under the result. The small change figure in the ticker compares today's rate with about a week ago.
Why is my bank's or forex card's rate different?
Banks, forex counters and money-transfer services add a margin to the market rate and often charge fees on top. A reference rate is a neutral benchmark, so use it to judge how good the rate you are offered is, not as the rate you will get.
Which currencies can I convert?
39 currencies, including US dollar, euro, British pound, Singapore dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar and Japanese yen. It also covers the UAE dirham, Saudi riyal and other Gulf and South Asian currencies, which come from a second source because the ECB does not publish them.
Where does the data come from?
Most currencies come from the European Central Bank's published daily reference rates, delivered through the free Frankfurter data service. The Gulf and South Asian currencies come from ExchangeRate-API's open daily rates. We do not add any margin or change the numbers.
Can I use these rates for tax or other official purposes?
Not without checking. Tax, customs and similar filings may require a specific rate published by the Reserve Bank of India or another authority on a specific date. Confirm which rate applies before you rely on a figure from any converter.
