How the Financial Health Score works
The score is a number out of 100 that combines two checks: your loans and your insurance. It takes about a minute and needs no signup.
Loans: your interest rate is compared with the market range for that kind of loan (benchmarks linked to RBI data), and your EMI is compared with your income, because a fair rate can still be an unaffordable payment. Insurance: your cover is looked at against what a household like yours would need, and whether the policy is current.
Where you tell us you have no loan or no policy, that part is left out rather than scored, so the number only reflects what exists. It is information to help you decide what to look at next, not financial advice and not an offer of any product. FinResp earns no commission and shares no contact details.
How your score is worked out
The score is out of 100 and has three parts. It is a guide to help you see where to look first, not financial advice.
- Your loan rates. For each loan we compare your rate with a good market rate for that type of loan (home, car, personal, education and so on). Every percentage point above that benchmark takes 7 points off, and a rate at or below it scores 100.
- Your monthly burden. Your total EMI as a share of your take-home income. Up to 40% counts as comfortable and scores 100. The score falls as the share rises, to about 40 at 60% and towards zero beyond that.
- Your health cover. Your sum insured is compared with ₹4 lakh, the average cost of a major illness at metro prices in our illness-cost scenarios. A policy that has already expired scores very low, because an expired policy pays no claims.
- In the quick quiz we weigh loans 60% and health cover 40%.
- If you log in and have saved your loans and income, the score is exact: loans 35%, monthly burden 25% and health cover 40%.
- Anything that does not apply to you, for example no loans, is left out, not counted as a perfect score.
- The quiz is an estimate. When you pick "Not sure" we use a rough bucket for that one factor and say so. Logged-in numbers come from the figures you saved.
- We do not ask for your name, phone number, account numbers or any policy document to give you a score.
- We do not sell loans or insurance and earn nothing from the choices you make after seeing your score.
