Who we are

FinResp ("we", "us") runs finresp.com, an independent research and comparison website for loans and health insurance in India. For the personal data described in this policy, FinResp is the "data fiduciary" under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. You can reach us at hello@finresp.com.

The short version

  • Most of FinResp works without giving us any personal information.
  • We ask for details only for features that need them, and you choose whether to use those features.
  • We never sell your information, and we never pass your name, email, phone number or documents to insurers, lenders or advertisers.
  • You can download a copy of your data, or delete your account and everything linked to it, yourself, on the My page.
  • Old data is deleted automatically after the periods listed below, and what we keep afterwards is anonymous.

What we collect, and why

Only the features you choose to use collect anything. Feature by feature:

FeatureWhat we collectWhy
Account (optional)Your email. If you give them: name, phone, city, age, monthly income and expenses. The loans you enter and your insurance answers. To log you in, show your results and keep what you saved.
Update emails (optional, only if you tick "Email me useful updates")Your email, your choice of which emails you want, and the loans and policies you saved, to work out the figures in them. A record of each email we send (which kind, when, and whether it was sent), never its content. To send the rate alerts, reminders and monthly note you asked for. Unsubscribe in one click from any of them, or change your choice on the My page.
Saved policies (optional)The details read from the policy PDF you upload, such as insurer, plan, sum insured, waiting periods, policy number and renewal date. The PDF itself is read in memory and is not saved, and the names of the people insured are dropped (only their relationship, such as spouse or son, is kept). A policy document can name the people insured and mention health conditions or treatments, so we ask for your agreement when you upload. To show your coverage score and keep the policy for you.
Comparison by email (optional)Your name, email and city, your mobile number if you choose to give it, and the plans compared. To send you that email and keep a record of the request.
Coming-soon sign-up (optional)Your name, email and answers. To tell you when a feature launches.
A question Tejas could not answer (optional, only if you say yes and share your email)Your email and the question you typed.Only to email you the answer, or to tell you if we add a topic you asked about. Never sold or shared.
Reviews (optional)A star rating, tick choices and, if you write it, your own words about an insurer. We do not ask who you are.To read and check the review and, once checked, to publish it. Published reviews are public. Your own words are read by us and may be shown on the site.
TejasYour choices (for example age group, family type, health conditions if you mention them, budget), saved against a random session ID with no name or contact details. To suggest what fits and to produce anonymous statistics.
Tax and policy toolsA payslip or policy PDF is read in memory and not saved. Figures you type into the tax calculator may be saved against a random browser ID, with no name or email. To read your figures, and to learn which deductions people use.
Invest tools (fixed deposit finder, SIP, lump sum, loan-or-invest, fund history)The numbers you type (amount, years, rate, loan details) go to our server only to work out the answer. We do not save them, and we do not write them to our server logs. We keep only the choice of tool and the options you picked, grouped into ranges, as under "Which features you use".To show you the result.
My Financial Health: savings and investmentsThe savings, SIP, mutual fund and fixed deposit figures you enter stay in your own browser, on your device. They are never sent to us, and never put into our usage statistics. To work out your savings cushion and deposit safety on your own screen.
VisitsA random session ID and browser ID, the pages you view, which version of a page you saw, whether your screen is a phone or a computer, the family of system it runs (for example Android or iPhone) and whether an app such as Instagram opened the link (never the browser text itself), and your approximate city and state, worked out from your IP address on our own server. We do not store the IP address with this data (our server logs are described under Security). To keep the site working and improve it.
Which features you useThe tool you used and the choices you made in it, grouped into ranges (for example a loan amount of "5 to 10 lakh", or the insurer and city you searched hospitals for), with your approximate city and state worked out from your connection, saved against a random session ID. Never your name, contact details or the content of a document. To see which tools people use and what they look for, so we can improve them and add the right ones.
Your cityIf you pick your city (on the small card or in the hospital finder): the city, remembered in your browser so we never ask again, and also saved once against a random browser ID, with no name or contact details. To open the hospital finder set to your city, and to understand what people need.

Please do not put names, policy numbers or phone numbers in a review; if you do, ask us to remove them. Tejas is a guided set of questions built on fixed rules. It is not an artificial-intelligence model, and nothing you type is sent to an AI service.

If you log in inside Tejas to ask about your own loans, health cover or money, Tejas reads the same saved account details you see on My Financial Health and shows them only to you. Those answers, and what you type in the Investing and My account sections of Tejas, are not saved in the Tejas chat history. Savings and investment figures you enter on My Financial Health stay on your own device and are never sent to us.

Health-related information

Some of what you may choose to give us, such as a policy document or a condition you mention to Tejas, can be health-related. Giving it is always optional, we use it only for the feature you asked for, and you can delete it yourself at any time.

Our legal basis

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you create an account or submit a form, and for the limited uses the law allows, such as keeping the site secure and meeting legal duties. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your data (see Your rights).

Who handles your data

  • Email delivery service. It sees the recipient address and the content of the emails we send you, such as your one-time password or a comparison you asked for.
  • Cloud hosting provider. Our website and database run on a cloud infrastructure provider.
  • Google AdSense, if ads are shown. Google may set its own cookies and receives information about your browser, as described under Advertising. We do not give it your account, loan or document details.
  • Currency-rate service. Your browser asks a third-party rate service for exchange rates, so that service can see your IP address.
  • Authorities, where the law requires us to disclose information.

Some of these providers may process data outside India. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with insurers, lenders or advertisers.

How long we keep it

Comparison requests and coming-soon sign-ups12 months. After that your name, email and phone are removed; the plans compared, the city and the interest category stay as anonymous statistics.
A question you left for Tejas, with your email12 months, then it is deleted automatically. Ask us and we delete it sooner.
Records of emails we sent you12 months.
Tejas sessions30 days. Anonymous daily totals are kept.
City answers12 months.
Tax-calculator figures90 days.
Invest tool numbersNot kept.
Savings and investment figures on My Financial HealthNot on our servers. They stay on your device until you delete them or clear your browser's site data.
Visit and usage data90 days. Anonymous daily totals (counts only) are kept.
Published reviewsUntil you ask us to remove them or we find a reason to take them down.

When you delete something it is removed from our live systems straight away. Routine backups are kept for a short time (we aim for no more than 30 days) and are not used to restore deleted accounts.

What stays after you delete your data

Deleting your account removes you: your email, name, phone number, saved loans, saved policies and documents, and the records linked to your email.

We keep anonymous statistics that cannot be traced back to you, so our figures stay honest. For example: that someone looked at personal loans; the type, rate and tenure of a loan, without who held it; which plans were compared in which city; and how many people asked to hear about a feature.

Visit data is tied to a random ID, not to your email, so it does not change when you delete your account. It expires by itself after 90 days.

Your rights

You can:

  • Get a copy of your data. Sign in, open My page, and choose Download my data.
  • Delete your data. On the My page, choose Delete my account to remove everything linked to your email, or delete a single saved policy from My saved policies. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
  • Correct your data. Edit your details on the My page, or email us.
  • Withdraw consent. Delete your account, or tell us which processing to stop.
  • Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or cannot act. Email us with the person's details.
  • Complain. See Grievances below. You can also approach the Data Protection Board of India under the law.

If you cannot sign in, email us from the address on your account and we will act on your request.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS), one-time passwords that expire, restricted administrator access, and keeping the software up to date. Our servers also keep technical logs (the address you connected from, the page asked for and the time) for 180 days, for security and legal duties, and then delete them. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

Cookies and similar storage

FinResp stores a few small items in your browser:

  • Your login token, if you sign in (so you stay signed in), and your saved calculator inputs.
  • A random browser ID, used for the anonymous measures described above.
  • Your chosen city (and what you said you are looking for), so we do not ask again. You can change the city any time in the hospital finder.
  • Your savings and investment figures on My Financial Health, kept only on your device. "Delete my savings figures" on My Financial Health, or clearing your browser's site data, removes them.
  • Your choice on the cookie notice ("Accept all" or "Essential only"), and a note that you closed a small card on the site so it does not keep coming back.
  • A cookie that remembers which version of the home page you were shown.
  • Cookies set by Google for advertising (limited ones for everyone, fuller ones if you chose "Accept all") and by Google Analytics (if you chose "Accept all"). See Google Analytics and Advertising.

Apart from Google Analytics, which loads only after you choose "Accept all", and Google's advertising (non-personalised until you choose "Accept all"), we do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools. You can clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings; the site keeps working, but you will be signed out.

Google Analytics

If you choose "Accept all" on the cookie notice, we use Google Analytics to see which pages are read, how people reach the site and what kind of device they use. It starts only after you choose, and stops as soon as you change your choice to "Essential only".

We send it the page address without anything after a question mark, the page title, and what Google's own tag sees about your browser and approximate location. We do not send what you type into a tool, your loan, savings or insurance figures, your name, email or phone number. We switch off Google's advertising features inside Analytics. We do not use Analytics on the staff dashboard or on your personal "My" pages.

Google may process this data outside India. To change your choice, clear this site's data in your browser; the cookie notice will ask again. Our own anonymous visit counts, described above, work with or without your choice.

Advertising

FinResp may show advertisements through Google AdSense. Advertisements are labelled "Advertisement", are separate from our research, and do not change our scores, rankings or data. We do not recommend any advertiser. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. Ads are shown to every visitor. Until you choose "Accept all" on the cookie notice, and if you choose "Essential only", the ads are not personalised: they do not use your earlier visits to show you ads, but Google may still use limited cookies or identifiers to count ads, limit how often one is shown and prevent fraud. If you choose "Accept all", ads can be personalised. You can manage or switch off personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com) or through your browser.

Children

FinResp is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

We link to insurer websites, IRDAI and RBI publications and news sources. Once you click a link you are on another website with its own privacy practices, which we do not control.
