Founded in 2006 in Chennai by V. Jagannathan, former Chairman & MD of United India Insurance, with an IRDAI license following in 2007 — India's first standalone health insurance company. Early backers included Sequoia Capital India, ICICI Venture, and Oman Insurance. In 2019 a consortium led by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, WestBridge Capital, and Safecrop Investments took a controlling stake; the company listed via IPO in December 2021.
