Founded in 2002 as HDFC Chubb General Insurance, a joint venture between HDFC and Chubb Corporation. HDFC bought out Chubb's stake in May 2007 and partnered with Munich Re's ERGO International AG later that year, renaming to HDFC ERGO in March 2008. Merged with HDFC Ergo Health (formerly Apollo Munich Health Insurance) in 2020. Following HDFC's 2023 amalgamation with HDFC Bank, HDFC Bank now holds roughly 50.33% of the company alongside ERGO/Munich Re.
